Hello welcome back I'm still Matt make spirits still Corey Heinz yeah we're focused on the Windows Server 2016 preview now in the previous module we looked a virtualization after a brief introduction hopefully you found that useful if you haven't seen it make sure you go back and check it out and in this module we're gonna be all focused on storage module 3 all about software-defined storage and you may be thinking well what is software-defined storage well we're gonna tell you we're gonna go through a little bit of what's in 2012 r2 because as Corey said this module perhaps more than any you need to understand just what we did introduced so that the new stuff makes sense if we just introduced spaces directed it wouldn't have context about where it's come from and the options introduced today in 2012 r2 are still very relevant going forward in 2016 as well so we're going to talk about all that stuff spaces direct quality of service DGP save you some storage space replication so another type of replication different from hyper-v replica I'd to go as far to say this one is even cooler would you agree I wasn't listening no you were looking like you I was I was looking at you looking at your your fancy watch and we'll talk about as you're consistent storage and I've got some resources and links in there we won't spend time on what was what was the question honestly what was the would you say that storage replicas is cooler than hyper-v replica I like I would okay okay you don't have enough time there sorry jeopardy what is what is software-defined storage oh that's a stark white seal isn't it so there's other girls besides jeopardy just excellent yeah house right entry so to introduce and just gonna spend a minute or two before we dive into the technology so software-defined storage is essentially using the power of software like Windows Server to transform industry standard hardware so regular x86 servers processes memory local disk or remote j-bot storage whatever it may be and transforming that into a storage infrastructure that enables you to deliver high-performance redundancy scale reliability replication deduplication thin provisioning all the features that you expect from a more traditional storage platform like a SAN for instance and the reason we're embracing software-defined storage and winner server is essentially we're utilizing the design patterns in Azure and integrating those design points into Windows server which derives down the cost of storage because we're utilizing local storage low cost commodity high-volume hardware we're using this storage back-end to meet the demands of growing data in the infrastructure because a lot of people's data is just growing and growing and growing so their needs for storage are growing and growing and if that's an expensive line item on your bill of materials then we can help with software-defined storage to reduce that cost and we can take advantage of evolving technologies like flash like the...
